The practice will explain how to provide any necessary records and intake information through the approved clinical process. Ask about the appointment format, expected duration, fees and preparation before confirming your visit.

Your assessment considers your concerns, psychiatric and medical history, substance use, previous treatment, medications, functioning and immediate safety, alongside your goals and questions.

The clinician explains whether outpatient care is suitable for your needs. If another level of care is safer or more appropriate, that recommendation is discussed with you.

You receive an explanation of the recommended approach, possible benefits, important risks, alternatives and practical commitments. Ask about anything that remains unclear, including costs and follow-up arrangements.

Review progress
Follow-up considers your response, side effects, functioning and changing needs. With appropriate authorization, care may be coordinated with other clinicians or people involved in your support.
